the space between here and now is a work of contemporary dance that seeks to explore the relationship between loss, memory, and space. Grief and memory live in the physical body, and the space left behind by loss can be tragically tangible. My choreography aims to embody the experience of loss, the interaction of memory and grief, and its subsequent power to shape identity. The inevitable cycles of connection and loss throughout life create an equilibrium of grief and hope -- and though space may be left behind, it is never truly empty. As a choreographer, I aim to create work that encourages reflection and introspection into universal elements of the human experience -- the parts of life that connect us and generate opportunities for us to empathize with one another. Stylistically, my choreography is contemporary in nature, playing with fleeting variations on ballet technique, contemporary floorwork, and modern dance, as represented in this selection. Through my choreographic process, and this exploration of emotional space through the physical, I hope to foster dialogue and connection about the universal experience of loss.
